I’m back from a very pleasant week in Reno, and there are over one thousand unread blog posts lined up in my trusty RSS-feed aggregator. It looks like I’ve got some serious reading to do. What was the absolute highlight of your vacation, you’re wondering? Well, it might have been catching a glimpse of Dennis [...]

Tomorrow I’m going to visit family in Reno, NV, the “biggest little city in the world.” There will not be much activity here until I get back home on Sunday, 31 July.

Jesse Taylor at Pandagon has made a very good point about “strict interpretation of the Constitution,” and it’s not a political point but a linguistic one. If the “original intent” movement demands a “plain English” requirement of constitutional interpretation based on today’s English, which Sowell seems to be contending in his rejection of the movement [...]

Michelle Malkin’s pretty pissed about a very stupid article that appeared in the Style section of today’s Post. The article, by Robin Givhan, made fun of Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, and his family, for wearing pastel colors and looking clean-cut. Make no mistake, it was a stupid, snarky article, all too sadly characteristic of [...]

Brian Leiter has weighed in with the best blog post I’ve seen thus far on the subject of John Roberts’ nomination to the US Supreme Court: … But if, on the off chance my anecdotal sense is correct, then an Associate Justice Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court may still sometimes side with the values [...]

In the previous post, I just mentioned one of the central tenets of wingnuttia: the idea that jihadists hate us solely for what we are, not what we do. And Dadahead, writing at The Liberal Avenger, has talked about the same thing: Since 9/11, too many on the left have been hesitant to analyze the [...]

Cathy Young, writing at Reason, says the London terrorist attacks have taught her an important lesson: The bomings in London on July 7, which killed 53 people and injured many more, were a powerful reminder that terrorism remains a clear and present threat in our cities. But they were also, to me, a reminder of [...]

First, a US Representative says that if terrorists attack us with a nuclear bomb, we should consider nuking Mecca: “Well, what if you said something like — if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites,” [...]

Thirst I used to marvel at Charles Krauthammer’s insatiable thirst for Kool-Aid. Then I had a look at David’s Blog this evening, and I’m inclined to say there’s an even thirstier wingnut out there, and it would be my favorite intellectual scuttlefish, David Horowitz. Look at this craziness. I’m telling you, if there’s a drop [...]
