Dum Pendebat Filius

Kevin Drum tried the new Diet Coke Sweetened With Splenda (that’s the official name) and says he liked it. Being a serious devotee of Diet Coke, I tried it as soon as I saw it, in a gas station just north of the Mason-Dixon Line, while I was driving to Pittsburgh over the Memorial Day weekend. I wasn’t too thrilled with it. I disagree with Drum’s impression that it “[t]astes just like regular Coke and had no aftertaste.” It was OK, but I saw no immediate compelling reason to switch. I’d like to have a couple more bottles of it before I pass final judgement on it.

Let’s be honest, diet cola tastes like ass, but once you get used to it, there’s no going back. I am simply a huge fan of Diet Coke and Marlboro 100s, and that’s just the way it is.
