Maryland motorists are concerned about “drunken driving, speeding, seat belt usage, cell phone use and drowsy drivers,” according to this Washington Post article.
My personal perception is that Marylanders like to drive fast, really fast. However, I also believe that driving in Northern Virginia is worse, for NoVa drivers combine their Top-Gunnian “need for speed” with a bizarre high-octane fury and a constant willingness to take major risks. I believe that Virginia drivers are simply angrier, in general, than Maryland drivers are. That may be just because I don’t spend much time in Maryland, though.
In fact, I honestly believe that Northern Virginia has the worst drivers in the United States. You might be able to convince me that somewhere else is just as bad, but you will not convince me it’s worse anywhere else. I have never seen the combination of blind recklessness, insensate truculence, and sheer jaw-dropping ineptitude that I see every day in Northern Virginia anywhere else, except in the Persian Gulf (particularly Dubai, with Abu Dhabi a close second).
