Is it still possible to tell a troll from a sincere comment, parody from reality? Is there anything so insane that some wingnut won’t go ahead and say it? Maybe, but you be the judge on this one. Have a look at this post from The Poor Man. Was that comment for real? Could somebody [...]

I’m pretty fond of The Doors, although I’m nowhere near the kind of Doors fan I was when I was in my early twenties. While I was in Reno last month, I saw a billboard on the highway announcing that “The Doors of the 21st Century” were going to be playing at one of the [...]

I’m in a pretty good mood today, readers; yesterday was my 35th birthday, today I got a couple of books in the mail which I’ve been looking forward to, and tomorrow I’m off to southeastern Virginia (where I spent the bulk of my formative years) for the weekend. So you get the Friday MP3s a [...]

Just a couple of days ago, I wrote about the Herndon Town Hall switchboard being flooded with calls, at the request of a right-wing radio host, to protest a proposed gathering place for day-laborers. Today, via Orcinus, I see that there was a rally in Denver, where people came to protest the Denver Public Library’s [...]

Michael Reagan has written an amazingly ill-informed and extremely stupid column, which appeared today on David Horowitz’s site. He starts out from a position of misinformation and proceeds to make a complete fool of himself: The San Bernadino, California, high school district is now discussing the implementation of Ebonics – the street language of young [...]

When you want to get to the bottom of a mystery, say the America-hating French people, cherchez la femme. In wingnut America, the femme usually turns out to be Hillary. You really ought to look at this post at Digby’s blog, to see a wingnut blame Hillary Clinton for the “Plamegate” affair. It was a [...]

Maryland motorists are concerned about “drunken driving, speeding, seat belt usage, cell phone use and drowsy drivers,” according to this Washington Post article. My personal perception is that Marylanders like to drive fast, really fast. However, I also believe that driving in Northern Virginia is worse, for NoVa drivers combine their Top-Gunnian “need for speed” [...]

A proposal to establish a designated gathering spot for migrant day-workers in Herndon, Va., has caused a bit of controversy up here. Yesterday, a wingnut AM-radio talk-show host had some choice things to say about it: “You need to help . . . [Herndon] Mayor O’Reilly understand he’s advocating breaking the law . . . [...]

John Tierney, in this NYT op-ed piece, seems to feel that if an animal can’t be anthropomorphized into an admirable person, it ain’t worth the trouble: The rotund panda may be cuddlier [than the polar bear], but it is really more of a poster animal for gluttony and sloth. In the wild, it eats 12 [...]

A new feature, readers, inspired by the bloggers at Liberal Avenger. I’m offering you three songs to download and enjoy at your leisure. This week, you get three tracks by Orbital. 1. Steel Cube Idolatry (6.01 MB, 06:34) This track appeared on certain releases (not, alas, the American one) of Orbital’s first LP (usually called [...]
