Thursday MP3s - Polygon Window

Polygon Window is one of the many aliases used by Richard James, aka Aphex Twin. I can’t call myself a fan of Aphex Twin, but Polygon Window is some extremely good stuff.
There is one Polygon Window LP, “Surfing on Sine Waves” (1993, re-released in 2001). One track from that album, “Quoth,” was released as a CD single as well. Those comprise the entirety of the Polygon Window catalog. Here are some tracks for you to enjoy:
1. UT1-dot (4.90 MB, 05:17) - Track 6 from “Surfing on Sine Waves.” An undulating bass line, combined with train-track percussion, gentle synthesizer effects, and a 50s-movie-style “robot voice.” Very enjoyable.
2. (untitled) (5.87 MB, 06:24) - Track 7 from “Surfing on Sine Waves.” This track rocks, even though I find it kind of unsettling.
3. Quoth (Original Version) (5.15 MB, 05:36) - from the “Quoth” CD single; same as the LP version. I believe this track was something of a hit, as it appeared on one of the Reactivate house-music compilation albums in the mid-90s. It’s repetitive, but in a good way.
4. Quoth (Wooden Thump Mix) (7.30 MB, 07:57) - from the “Quoth” CD single. Not just a remix, but more like a reinterpretation of the original track. Hypnotic and vaguely Cubist in its overall effect.
5. Iketa (4.14 MB, 04:31) - from the “Quoth” CD single. It’s somehow off-putting and catchy at the same time, oddly compelling (that sums up Polygon Window in a nutshell, I think, in fact).
Enjoy.
