Sunday Cat Blogging: Buddy

Posted: Sunday, October 30th, 2005 @ 9:02 pm in Dogs and Cats | No Comments »

In the Internet tradition of “cat blogging,” here’s a picture of Buddy, my sister’s boyfriend’s cat. Buddy is going to stay with me for a week while his owner is overseas on business. He (the cat) was very unhappy in the car, mewing piteously the length of the BW Parkway and half the [...]

Sunday MP3s - Meat Beat Manifesto

Last Sunday’s MBM offerings don’t seem to have been especially popular, but a few of you downloaded all of them. I’m offering you a special treat this Sunday: the 1993 “Peel Session” EP (Strange Fruit Records CD DEI8356-2), in its entirety. These tracks were performed on BBC Radio One on 13 December [...]

Scooter Libby, American Patriot

God bless Scooter Libby, readers. All he was doing was helping to fight a real traitor:
What I see is this. A rogue CIA set out to sabotage Bush’s war by undermining his credibility. Niger was a target of opportunity. It seems that Saddam through the French actually had a document about Niger uranium forged [...]

Post-Miers thoughts

1. If you didn’t happen to catch commenter Jason’s remarks on the post entitled “Harriet Miers dropped the ball,” you ought to check them out. (You could do worse than to check out his promising new blog while you’re at it, too.)
2. Miers, an unqualified nominee, has dropped out. I opposed [...]

Survey on Miers

TTLB is tracking bloggers’ positions on the Miers nomination. My official position:
I oppose the Miers nomination. I still haven’t seen anything that makes me believe she’s really qualified to be a Supreme Court justice.
Some early results are in already: only 14.5% are in favor of the Miers nomination.

How do you remember which months have how many days, readers? Do you use some version of the mnemonic device that most English-speakers learned as children:

Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November.
All the rest have thirty-one,
Except for February alone.

There seem to be about eight zillion variations of this poem floating around. It dates [...]

Sunday MP3s - Meat Beat Manifesto

We’re approaching the end of the month, and I’ve got bandwidth to burn, baby. That means more MP3s for you, readers!
Here’s some Meat Beat Manifesto for you. This is the four-part version of “Reanimator,” from the amazing 1989 LP “Storm the Studio” (available on CD: TVT 7266). “Storm the Studio” kicks so [...]

Harriet Miers dropped the ball

Posted: Sunday, October 23rd, 2005 @ 9:56 am in Political | 11 Comments »

Or was it a bowling shoe she dropped? In any case, Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers sent her questionnaire response (a description of “constitutional questions she has worked on”) to the Senate, and, as Kevin Drum put it (with economy and punch), “she blew it.”
Dadahead put up a link to a story that [...]

Saturday MP3s - Joey Beltram

Posted: Saturday, October 22nd, 2005 @ 1:55 pm in Music | No Comments »

Joey Beltram makes simple techno music. His tracks are a staple of many a set list. There’s nothing fancy or convoluted about this stuff; this is the basics. It’s not “deep house” or “gloomcore” or “hard acid.” This is what people are talking about when they’re talking about “techno.”
Here are [...]

Request for advice

Readers, I would like some advice from you.
I am about sick of the crappy music-playing and -recording software that came pre-installed on my Dell desktop PC. Here’s the crap I am currently using:

For listening to CDs and MP3 files: Musicmatch Jukebox 10
For ripping audio tracks from CD into MP3 files: Musicmatch Jukebox [...]
