Firefox 1.5 released

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 has been released. You can download it from one of the mirror sites or from the main site.
My search plugins got clobbered during the installation process; this is reasonably easy to set right again, but be aware of this potential problem, if that’s something that would bother you much.

And another endorsement

First 50 Cent, now media liberal Chris Matthews:
I like him [i.e. President Bush]. Everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left — I mean — like him personally.
Well, readers, I reckon that makes me a real whack-job.

President Bush, gangsta, personally likable

Dumpendebat, a real whack-job, maybe on the [...]

Object of suspicion

Here’s a link to a good article you should read if you’ve got the time:
“The Strange Case of Chaplain Yee,” by Joseph Lelyveld, in the 2005/12/15 NYRB
Actually, it appears, all Captain Yee had to do to attract suspicion was to intercede repeatedly at Camp Delta on behalf of the prisoners, as their chaplain, when he [...]

Presidential Props from 50 Cent

Rapper 50 Cent thinks President Bush is a “gangsta” and has given him props:
Fiddy even said that if he didn’t have felony convictions preventing him from balloting, he would have voted for Bush in the last election.
As breaking news reports, Fiddy said: “He’s is incredible… A gangster. I wanna meet George Bush, just shake [...]

Rare agreement

Dumpendebat agreeing with Michelle Malkin… rare, but it happens.
Michelle: “How about shut up and publish, and leave the anti-tobacco zealotry to the ashtray cops?”
Anti-tobacco zealotry is by no means the property of the political Left, readers. Smokers (20% of the American population) come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds. Unfortunately, [...]

Two good articles

Here are links to two good articles from the 2005/12/01 LRB:
“Remember me” by Adam Phillips, on Bret Easton Ellis
Ellis’s characters come after Balzac’s in the sense that they are already inordinately wealthy – many have both inherited money and made considerable amounts of it – and are already stranded by their inordinate success, or the [...]

Meathead vilified, Libby vindicated

1. “Pscyho-Hollywood”
Here’s an eructation from “David’s Blog,” in its entirety, misspellings and hyperlinks inclusive:
Pscyho-Hollywood: Rob Reiner
“To send people off to die for a lie–I swear I never thought I’d see that again my lifetime. We went through it in Vietnam. To me, it’s the most unconscionable thing you can do.” Thus spake Rob [...]

Saturday MP3s - Heavyweight Breaks

Posted: Saturday, November 19th, 2005 @ 12:55 pm in Music | No Comments »

You haven’t gotten any MP3s in a long time, readers, so it’s high time I rectified that omission.
What’s going on these days in the world of “breakbeat”? A couple years ago, some sub-subgenre called “Tampa Breaks” seemed to be very popular. I tried some of it and wasn’t very impressed.
Recently, I came across [...]
