I don't know where Malkin got that press release in the first place, but you're absolutely right, she provided her readers with the email addresses/phone numbers because she wanted her readers to call and harass the anti-war student activists. Her disingenuous disclaimers that she "does not condone death threats" are bullshit. She's piously "not condoning" it with one hand and facilitating it with the other. ("Do not condone" in one hand and "facilitate" in the other, and see which hand gets full first.)

Likewise, you're right that she knew full well that the information on that press release was for journalists, not meant to be passed along to Malkin's thousands and thousands of readers. In addition to an egregious breach of simple human decency, she's also guilty of a grotesque lapse in her journalistic ethics.

Publishing the email addresses and phone numbers was wrong, and she knows it's wrong, and she did it anyway.

But her own personal information shouldn't be disseminated either. I don't even want hyperlinks on my page pointing to such information (that's why I edited your otherwise good comment and removed those links, Mole). It's wrong no matter who does it.

Commenter Hanque above interpreted my original post, composed in a fit of anger (hence the angry language), to mean that I felt anger had/has no place in dialogue. There's useful anger, the kind of anger that makes people politically active, and there's fruitless anger, the kind of anger that leads to Internet death threats, and to the sort of filthy disgusting hate mail Malkin received (and is no doubt continuing to receive) in retaliation.

The whole thing's just a mess, and nothing good can come of it. The best thing anybody who gets involved can hope for is a momentary, ephemeral catharsis from blasting some nasty message over the wires. Everyone will end up feeling even worse than when they started out. I know I sure do.

What will come next?

Regarding how this all started, Michelle Malkin went to a cached page, took a screenshot, and posted the image on her site because didn't like the politics of the people. It's not her place to justify the disclosing of this information because she deemed that they were terrorizing people. That's an issue for the Santa Cruz police department to deal with, not her own brand of vigilante justice.

As for her own personal details - Malkin included that on her own e-mail list and that's how it went public. She launched her personal information about herself BY herself.

And the anti-racist One People's Project [hyperlink removed by dumpendebat] website promptly released her new details.

Someone took it a step further and used live.windows.com and yahoo maps to do a Graphic [hyperlink removed by dumpendebat].

Payback's a bitch eh' Malkin?

Her refusal to remove these kids contact information was not from conviction, but from revenue. Every journalist in the world knows that contact information on a press release is for journalists to call for more information or interviews, not to be published (or even pointed out) in the publication itself. If she were any kind of ethical person she would have pulled the information when asked.

If she were something resembling a human being with "feelings", she would not have republished the information once the students themselves removed it. Michelle is a vicious, vindictive, venomous egoist with no discernible ethics nor even a shred of human decency. If she wants to be The Minority Woman Who Believes Minorities and Women Suck, that's her right. But she should at least have the integrity to acknowledge that she has done wrong and to stop compounding the wrong. And she should not give us that disingenuous crap about how she doesn't condone death threats and nobody should misuse her posting and reposting of personal information.

It was actually pretty easy to close with that final statement, because I, too, ended up even angrier than I was when I started out. That was the point. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough about that. Oh, well.

If you start a posting with this: "The execrable Michelle Malkin..."

It is very difficult to close with this: "And everyone involved will end up even angrier than they were when they started out."

The first comment is written to incite the reader. Who the reader is dictates whether the incitement is expressed as anger or glee.

The last comment implies that inciting anger is unproductive or wrong. So at the same time you're inciting anger, you're implying that anger has no place in dialogue.

One can either choose to insult and deal with the anger it incites, or one can choose to criticize without insulting and generate less angry commentary.

Peace, love and Bobby Sherman - that is what I say. But the mullahs in Iran are sending messages out that all they just have to do is have patience until a Democrat is in the White House and then they will win the war against the infidels.

"President George W Bush is an aberration, an exception to a rule under which all American presidents since Truman, when faced with serious setbacks abroad, have "run away". Iran's current strategy, therefore, is to wait Bush out. And that, by "divine coincidence", corresponds to the time Iran needs to develop its nuclear arsenal, thus matching the only advantage that the infidel enjoys."

This nation can defeat any enemy outside our borders, but are losing to liberals from within.
