Why don’t you explain the contradiction? Explain how the fact that people are scared after 9/11 proves that Al-Qaeda terrorists are still making “dry runs” on American airplanes. Explain how the fact that we’re forbidden to carry bottles of water proves that these “dry runs” are not a figment of your imagination. Can you do that?

I agree a scared population is easier to control. I also agree that we will be hit again, larger and more devastating. Bush’s policies will see to that.

Before 9/11, the paradigm for airplane hijackings was Just do whatever the hijackers say and nobody will get hurt.

9/11 changed that, in a big way. And so did Richard Reid, the would-be shoe bomber.

Now everybody on every airplane is always watching everybody else for signs of “suspicious behavior.” There’s no longer any reason for a terrorist to try and sneak onto an airplane, because they’ve already got most of us scared half to death anyways. And the Richard Reid incident proved that if anybody actually tries something, his fellow passengers aren’t going to just sit there, they’re going to fight back. Everybody learned on 9/11 that the old “Do what they say and nobody gets hurt” doesn’t apply any more. People are going to fight back, and it’s not like terrorists don’t know it.

So all this Annie Jacobsen/Michelle Malkin “Terrorists are making ‘dry runs’ on American airplanes” stuff is just pure paranoia. It’s an urban legend. You can’t even bring a fucking bottle of water on an airplane today, for crying out loud.

I like what the Wonkette said. If the people who Malkin constantly cheers for were in total control of this country she would be doing their laundry and making them bowls of noodles.
