Asshole of the Month: Ralph Nader
Once again, egotist Ralph Nader has decided to run for President as a third-party spoiler. Apparently, it’s of crucial importance that Ralph Nader get some attention this year, and that he siphon off some votes that would otherwise go to the Dem nominee. Sure, the stakes might be high in 2008, but they’re not high enough for Ralph Nader.
During Campaign 2000, Ralph Nader insisted there was no difference between the two major political parties. Bush or Gore, he said, would be just the same. It didn’t matter which of the two became President. Some left-wingers were foolish enough to be seduced by his Green, populist, anti-Big-Business rhetoric.
What did we get with President Bush, readers?

A President who was in way over his head when things went wrong

Almost five years of war in Iraq

An America that detains people and tortures them, proudly and openly, in the name of “freedom”

Georgie played guitar…
So, Ralph Nader, how do you like your America seven years later, asshole?
Want to see how much more damage the GOP can do?
Go ahead and try to siphon off as many Dem votes as you can, and maybe we’ll get to find out!

Very nice post.
Barack nailed it when he said of Nader, “He thought that there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush and eight years later I think people realize that Ralph did not know what he was talking about.”
Ralph Nader is the reason the Supreme Court was able to give Bush the presidency and it’s been a miserable 8 years of more republican failed policies and the country has paid a heavy price.
Nader needs to be stopped. BAMN.

Patronizing, dumb, and deeply silly. I know you can do better than that, H.D.

Nader argues–convincingly enough for me–1)that his entry into the 2000 race did not siphon votes from Gore but rather motivated “Nader” voters (those who otherwise would have stayed home) to turn out because of dissatisfaction with Gore, 2)that his presence in the race actually motivated Gore voters to turn out in larger numbers than they otherwise would have, 3) that the votes of any of the other non-Republican or non-Democratic party candidates would have been enough to win Gore Florida, and 4)that he won some votes that perhaps were going to go to Bush had he not run. Dig a little and you’ll see he has the stats to back up all of those arguments.
It was Gore’s race to lose and he lost. To blame Nader seems silly and uninformed. I suppose it is easier though to scapegoat a principled character like Ralph Nader than to admit we live in a country of religious kooks, greedy bastards, and backward thinking shit heads who got what they deserved when they elected George W. Bush. Nader’s a better man than you or I will ever be.

Sorry, troll, you’ll get disemvoweled if you can’t keep it reasonably civil.
March 5th, 2008 @ 12:20
Take that troll!
Hey RP, Nader got almost 97,000 votes in Florida and it’s been estimated that 2/3s of them would have voted for Gore. Those 97K were not all ‘motivated “Nader” voters’. Gore ‘lost’ Florida by 1,725 votes.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out Ralph Nader gave us George W. Bush.
March 5th, 2008 @ 12:29
Of course, Gore could have used a couple thousand of the “Jews for Buchanan” votes Pat Buchanan got, too.
March 6th, 2008 @ 01:47
RP, I have to disagree, strongly, with your assessment that “it was Gore’s race to lose and he lost.” Don’t get me wrong — I don’t think 100% of the blame for Gore’s defeat in 2000 is due to Nader. The Washington press corps and its War On Gore gets the lion’s share of the blame; and, of course, it was the Supreme Court who made the final decision in Campaign 2000.
The fact remains, though, that if Nader voters had come out for Gore, we wouldn’t have had a President Bush.
Be that as it may, the stakes are way too high in 2008 for yet another quixotic Nader For President ego-fest. We don’t need him taking away Dem votes this year. I wish he would shut the hell up and stay at home — that would be the best thing he could do for America in 2008.

Yeah Nader should stfu this time tbh
