I’m very proud of your state as well. The moment I heard, I knew it was over. Good work, PA!
Now in the very, very bad news department, it looks like prop 8 passed in CA, and prop 4 is too close to call. AND, I believe Michele Bachman retained her seat in MN.
Prop 8 troubles me deeply. The yes campaign ran a very dishonorable race, but they stayed on topic and hammered the airwaves with their crap. The no campaign ran an honest campaign, but did it scatter-shot. And hence a very sad result: a goddamned constitutional amendment! People are simply not thinking – they’re just not fucking thinking.

I didn’t vote this year, mostly because the acrimony of elections and the discord they can create wears me down. I live outside the US and did my best to avoid the show this year. I doubt we’ll see much change on anything that will immediately affect our lives with a change in the presidency. Thankfully our system of government places most of the power in local, state and the federal legislative branch; so the direct impact on a change in the presidency is somewhat overstated. The local ballot initiatives were indeed interesting.
Where elections are concerned I will say this. In the US they are free, and for the most part, fair. We get a shot at changing things in our government every few years and for that I’ll always be grateful, whether I participate or not.
Closing comments: Three readers?? That makes me part of the illuminati.

You should be proud of your state. Knowing how much time McCain wasted there in the last two-three weeks – only to get trounced – gives me tremendous glee!
