I haven’t posted Thursday MP3s in a couple of months, readers, but better late than never.
Today’s album is Disc One of Underground London (1995). This is a twelve-track compilation of British techno. I still listen to it fairly often, and it still sounds good, despite the fact that it’s now twelve years old. [...]

Here is a phylogeny of the meme “Dollar Bill Y’All.” If you are aware of an appearance of this meme that I’ve overlooked or omitted, I want to know about it; please leave a reference in the comments.
1983 — Jimmy Spicer, “Money (Dollar Bill Y’All)” (mp3) The single that started it all. [...]

Excessive Force was the best of the KMFDM side projects, originally consisting of KMFDM’s Sascha Konietzko and Buzz McCoy of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. Despite the name “Excessive Force” (taken from a track on KMFDM’s first album), their sound was more house than industrial. Here are their first two releases, [...]

Since almost everyone I know can’t stand black metal, I’d like to post a (slightly) more conventional offering than Burzum’s seminal self-titled release.
I first heard Walter (now Wendy) Carlos’ Switched-On Bach when I was maybe eleven or twelve in its right vinyl EP form and it was the shit. He (now she’s) the guy (now [...]

This week’s album is “Guerillas In Tha Mist” (1992), by Da Lench Mob. They were, of course, associates of the legendary Ice Cube, who produced “Guerillas” (before going on to star in family-friendly comic films).
Readers, I think “Guerillas In Tha Mist” might be the most underrated rap album of all time. Its consistency [...]

This week, readers, the musical offering is an overlooked and underrated rap album: “Riders of the Storm: The Underwater Album” (1994) by Boogie Monsters. (Click on the link to download a ZIP file.)
I think you’ll enjoy the biblical imagery of “Mark of the Beast,” the laid-back beats and basslines, and the overall slightly [...]
