Saturday MP3s - Random
No particular theme, no unifying motif, just a few random tracks from the extensive Dum Pendebat Filius library for you to download and enjoy on a weekend in late November, beloved readers.
1. T. Raumschmiere — “Monstertruckdriver” (3.25 MB, 03:32) — From the 2003 LP “Radio Blackout” (Novamute CD 3079-2). Impossible to classify taxonomically, but an extremely groovy track.
2. Ego Express — “Telefunken” (4.62 MB, 05:02) — From a 1997 compilation called “Ladomat 2000 Compact Disc Volume 1″ (Ladomat CD 2040-2). The compilation consists mostly of “artistic” clicks and beeps (I don’t understand how Germans can have such an appetite for that dry stuff; I can handle abstract, but I need a beat and preferably a bassline), but this track is extremely ill, somewhere between house and disco.
3. Planetary Assault Systems — “Signal” (2.85 MB, 03:06) — From the 1997 LP “The Electric Funk Machine” (Peace Frog PF063CD). “Planetary Assault Systems” is one of the pseudonyms used by Luke Slater. This track shouldn’t work, but it does, somehow. Listen to it and you’ll see what I mean.
4. Jeff Mills — “Changes of Life” (4.45 MB, 04:51) — An all-time classic, from the 1993 LP “Waveform Transmissions Vol. 1″ (Pow Wow Records CD PWD7437). If you own many techno compilations or DJ mixes, chances are this track will sound familiar. Minimalist techno at its finest: a thumping beat, a bassline, and a simple melody. Very nice.
5. Eat Static — “Xenomorph” (5.99 MB, 06:32) — From the 1995 LP “Abduction” (Peace Frog CD MR0118-2). Simply amazing. A “xenomorph” would be something that changes into something foreign. Listen to the way this track builds and builds until, at around 02:50, a new theme is introduced, and the track gradually becomes something different. Then you see the point.
Enjoy.
